Maintaining correct staff-to-child ratios is one of the most fundamental childcare licensing requirements. ComplyNest's Ratio Monitoring module gives you a real-time view of each classroom's current ratio versus the required ratio for the age group it serves.

Classroom

A classroom in ComplyNest is a named group of children served by a specific set of staff. Each classroom belongs to one center and serves a primary age group.

Age Group

The age group (for example, Infant, Toddler, Preschool, School-Age) determines the required staff-to-child ratio. ComplyNest uses your state and age group settings to set the required ratio for each classroom.

Required Ratio

The required ratio is expressed as the maximum number of children one staff member may supervise. For example, a 1:4 ratio means one staff member per four infants.

Current Ratio

The current ratio is calculated from the number of children and staff currently assigned to the classroom. It updates whenever you update the classroom roster.

Status Badges

  • In Compliance (green) — the current ratio meets or exceeds the requirement.
  • Warning (amber) — the ratio is at risk but not yet in violation.
  • Violation (red) — the current ratio exceeds the maximum allowed.
ComplyNest's ratio monitoring is based on the numbers you enter. It does not connect to a real-time attendance system. Accurate monitoring depends on keeping your classroom rosters up to date.
