Most states require childcare programs to maintain a written emergency preparedness plan and review it at least annually. ComplyNest helps you track when the plan was last reviewed, who acknowledged it, and when the next review is due.

What an Emergency Plan Review Should Cover

  • Evacuation routes and assembly points
  • Shelter-in-place procedures
  • Lockdown procedures
  • Communication plan for notifying parents
  • Roles and responsibilities for each staff member during an emergency
  • Special needs accommodations for children with disabilities
  • Contact list for local emergency services

How to Record a Review

  1. Go to Safety & Inspections → Emergency Preparedness.
  2. Open the annual review task.
  3. Enter the date the review took place.
  4. Upload the updated emergency plan document.
  5. Add notes summarizing any changes made to the plan.
  6. Click Complete Task.

Staff Acknowledgement

After a plan review, all staff should acknowledge they have read the updated plan. You can upload a signed acknowledgement sheet as part of the task evidence, or track individual acknowledgements by creating a follow-up task for each staff member.

Emergency plan review frequency requirements vary by state. Set your task recurrence to match your state's requirement. If your state requires annual review, set recurrence to Annually so the task automatically reappears each year.
